Kanye's Case Delayed

Kanye West's arraignment on misdemeanor assault charges has been delayed, giving Kanye and his lawyers another month to prepare.

According to the Associated Press, a Los Angeles judge granted a delay in Kanye's case, giving him until May 20 to enter a plea.

He was scheduled to be arraigned on 3 misdemeanor chrges filed as result of a scuffle with a paparazzo at LAX in September 2008, which was caught on tape by TMZ.

In TMZ's clip, Kanye's road manager Don C. was seen grabbing the camera of a TMZ photographer and throwing it, while Kanye himself snatched the flash attachment and smashed it on the floor.

Kanye was charged with misdemeanor counts of vandalism, battery and grand theft, while Don C. (real name: Don Crowley) was hit with two counts of vandalism, two counts of grand theft and two counts of battery. If convicted on all counts, Kanye could face up to two years and six months in jail, while Crowley could face up to five years in jail.

Both Kanye and Don C. are free on bond, pending their next court date.

Kanye's attorney, Blair Berk, told a court commissioner that Monday (April 13) was the first time she had been allowed to review the police report and she is waiting for prosecutors to turn over any additional evidence they have.

"If Justin hadn't come out and killed the game, I can't say that my album, singles and videos would be on the same level that they're on," he says. "We push each other. I look at me and Justin like Prince and Michael Jackson in their day."

A sly dig at 50 Cent? Earlier this month, 50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis James Jackson, promised to quit his solo career if West's new album, "Graduation," outsells his upcoming CD, "Curtis." Both albums are due out Sept. 11.

West, a six-time Grammy winner, tells XXL that he's "never cared about being No. 1." Record sales, he figures, aren't as important as how the music connects with people.

"I feel like my lyrics are, if not THE, then equal to, the realest lyrics out," he says. "I connected with so many people without talkin' about guns and drugs. ... It's harder to go to work 365 days than shoot a person in one day."

Further, "there's nothing about wearing a pink Polo that would make anyone believe that I would hold a gun," he says.

West realizes his flamboyant style and less-than-humble public behavior -- like throwing fits over not winning music awards -- could hinder his chances for success.

"... When people come up to you like, `That was really good,' you're supposed to play stupid, like, `Wow, you really think so?"'

"Because people can't really handle the truth," he continues. "But I am the truth. I'd rather be hated for what I am than loved for what I'm not."

Kanye pays $3,900. for a $17.50 meal

If Kanye West were to walk into the British Raj's dining room and order dinner, it would cost the rapper about $17.50. But since the restaurant is delivering - from Wales to New York - it's going to cost a bit more.

For a feast of onion bhajees, chapati breads, biryanis, pappadums, a specially prepared fish dish and vegetables on the side, the bill will top $3,900, plus travel and accommodation for the restaurant's head chef.

The meal was requested for West and seven guests by a music promotion company, the restaurant said Sunday. The company had previously ordered food from the restaurant near Cardiff, Wales, for an after-show party for a Snoop Dogg concert in London.

But this is different. Normally, they don't deliver outside a 3-mile radius of the restaurant, which is about 150 miles west of London.

"I was horrified when I heard about this request because of the distance involved," said the restaurant's head waiter, Tarik Mohammed. "It's a long way, and our reputation is on the line. We are doing every thing to make sure the food gets there safely and every thing is aboveboard."

The meal will be prepared, cooled, shrink-wrapped and packed in dry ice in the British Raj's kitchens and - along with head chef Kaysor Ahmed - will be helicoptered from Wales to London's Heathrow Airport on Tuesday.

From there, the chef is to hop a flight to New York - monitoring the food's temperature all the way - clear customs, and head for Manhattan, where the meal is to be served during a meeting Wednesday.

The fee was arrived at by estimating the restaurant's takings for two evenings, the time Ahmed will be away, Mohammed said.

Kanye concert shooter sentenced

A man that shot two security guards during Kanye West's performance at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) Arena in the United Kingdom in Feb. of 2006 has been sentenced to life in prison for the shooting.
Abidan Raphael, 27, was ejected from the NEC Arena with his girlfriend Joanne Bushell, 22, twice for attempting to enter the Kanye West concert, without a ticket.
The concert was the final date on West's five-date Touch The Sky Tour, which wrapped up at the NEC Arena. Over 12,000 people in attended the concert, which was in progress when the shooting occurred.
Prosecutors said Raphael and others had been found by security guards in an area of a bar that had been close and were promptly thrown out of the venue.
Later, security guards spotted Raphael and Bushell in the concert hall and escorted them out of the building a second time.
Raphael then produced a handgun and fired six shots, four of which struck 46-year-old John Tough in the face, stomach and foot. Another guard was shot in the abdomen.
A jury found Raphael guilty of three charges of attempted murder and other firearms and assault violations.
Bushell was convicted of assisting Raphael and sentenced to three years in prison.

Kanye gets tv show

HBO is developing a series from Larry Charles that will star rapper Kanye West, sources said. The as-yet-untitled project is said to focus on a day in what is described as the crazy, hectic life of the Grammy-winning artist.The project is from executive producer/director Charles; sources said the other executive producers will be record producer/label executive Rick Rubin; G Roberson, who is West's manager; and Kanye West.
In March, West teamed with Anonymous Content and New Line Cinema to produce a feature film inspired by his music. West also will appear in the film, which will create a multiperspective portrait of the U.S. as seen through the eyes of West and several filmmakers.
