Kobe and Vanessa calling it quits
A source very close to Kobe Bryant, claims that the 28 year old ball player is ready to put an end to his 6 year marriage. The insider states, "They've been trying to make things better now for more than a year, but it's just not working out ... Kobe's in the process of moving out of their home and both are ready to officially end things."But if you're expecting fireworks in the divorce battle - you might be disappointed. According to the inside source, Kobe and Vanessa will likely settle everything quietly.
The inside source also explains "There's very little for Kobe and Vanessa to fight over. Since there was no pre-nuptial agreement, Vanessa's entitled to half the marital assets ... Besides, Kobe stands to make a lot more money in the years to come - and that will be all his."During his professional career, Bryant is estimated to have drawn in close to $200M in earnings. And the superstar's future earnings look even brighter.
The Lakers currently owe him $88.6 million in salary over the next four seasons. And he has a number of very lucrative endorsement deals - including one with $18M left on it from Nike.
Jay files an appeal
Hip-hop mogul Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter has appealed to a federal judge to drop a lawsuit accusing him of illegal wage practices. The star was sued by former 40/40 nightclub waitress Celeste Williams in May, who insists Carter and his business partner Juan Perez paid their staff below minimum wage.
But in court papers filed on Tuesday, Carter and Perez argue they are shareholders in the New York nightspot, and do not play any part in staffing issues.
Their lawyers suggest Carter was targeted because of his fame, arguing in court documents, "It may be plaintiffs named these individuals as defendants solely because Shawn Carter is a public figure and plaintiffs hoped to draw publicity to extract a quick settlement."
It continues that while Carter "is a Grammy Award-winning rapper and businessman who is of obvious interest to the media and the public" he is not "a statutory employer" and has "no role in payroll whatsoever".

Kells Trial to start
R&B singer R. Kelly is scheduled to go on trial next month -- more than five years after he was first charged with child pornography.
The judge in the case announced a Sept. 17 date for the start of a jury trial, according to the Cook County state's attorney's office.
The Chicago Sun-Times reported on its Web site that the setting of a date followed a meeting Wednesday that lasted more than an hour between Cook County Judge Vincent Gaughan with Kelly, his attorneys and the case's lead prosecutor. Gaughan said the two sides have agreed on what questions potential jurors can be asked.
Kelly has pleaded not guilty to 14 counts of child pornography. He was charged in 2002 and is accused of engaging in videotaped sex acts with an underage girl.
He has said he'll survive his legal tribulations.
"I'm going through my own struggle ... and you're either gonna fold or you're going to stand," he told The Associated Press in 2005, "and I believe in standing."
Since Kelly's arrest, the case has been hit with delay after delay. Gaughan seemed close to setting a trial date last year, but then he was hospitalized after falling off a ladder and suffering multiple fractures. By the time the judge recovered, Kelly needed emergency surgery for a burst appendix, which caused him to miss a status hearing in February.
Scheduling was further complicated by demand for Kelly's attorney, Ed Genson. Genson, a highly sought-after attorney, represented Conrad Black in a lengthy trial that ended last month with the newspaper executive being convicted of three counts of mail fraud and one count of obstruction of justice.
Kelly, who was born Robert Sylvester Kelly, was charged after a tape was leaked to the media that allegedly shows him on a videotape engaged in sex acts with a young teenager. Authorities have said the girl on the tape was as young as 13 when it was made.
Kelly's attorneys have not conceded that he is on the tape, saying that his likeness may have been computer generated. They have also tried to raise doubts about the identity and age of the girl seen on the videotape

Calvin Klein airs out Jay
It seems like a lot of Jay-Z’s past friends ain’t feeling him anymore. That is how it usually goes when you make it big. The man speaking in the interview is Calvin Klein, an old school gangsta from Brooklyn.
In Brooklyn during the ’80s and early ’90s, one of the main names ringing out in the streets was Calvin “Klein” Bacote’s. He’s the guy Jay-Z is talking about in “Allure” when he raps, “I never felt more alive/ Than ridin’ shotgun in Klein’s green five.”
Klein claims only 10% of what Jay Raps about in his music is true and the other 90% is that of another persons life. He said Jay was never the big time dealer he claimed to be and goes on to say that he and Jay caught an attempted murder charge together in 89 in which Klein took the rap for.

BMF...more arrest made
On July 25, 2007, the U.S. Attorney for the United states District Court for the Northern District of Georgia unveiled an indictment of 16 more members of the Black Mafia Family.
"The government is one step closer to eradicating one of today's most violent and notorious drug trafficking organizations," said special Agent in Charge Rodney G. Benson of the DEA Atlanta office. The indictment charged all defendants with participating in the nationwide cocaine distribution conspiracy, which carries a penalty of between 10 years and life in prison, and up to a $4 million fine.
"The Black Mafia Family once had billboards towering over Atlanta boldly proclaiming that the world was theirs," U.S. Attorney David Nahmias said. "This indictment is a rejection of that claim. First in Detroit and Orlando, and now here, the government is shutting down the BMF's once-flourishing drug empire.
