Max B. held on $2 million bail

Dip Set's Max B has been ordered to be held on $2 million bail on charges of murder, robbery and conspiracy, stemming from a September 2006 incident that left one man dead in a Ft. Lee, N.J., hotel room. According to the Newark Star Ledger, Bergen County prosecutors allege that the rapper, whose real name is Charlie Wingate, orchestrated a scheme to rob David Taylor and Allan “Jay” Plowden on Sept. 22, 2006. According to prosecutor Catherine Fantuzzi, Max B’s girlfriend, Gina Marie Conway, told the rapper that she had seen the two men driving expensive cars and flashing large amounts of money. Max B is accused of recruiting his friend Kelvin Leerdam to enter the men’s hotel room at the Ft. Lee Holiday Inn, tie them up and take their cash.
Conway, who has also been charged in the case, allegedly knocked on Plowden’s door at around 4 a.m., then entered the room with Leerdam, who had a handgun. The two forced Plowden to call Taylor to the room. When Taylor arrived, he was shot in the head. Plowden was tied up but later managed to escape. Conway and Leerdam reportedly failed to find the $30,000 in cash that Plowden was supposed to be carrying at the time. Prosecutors say they connected Max B to the robbery when cell phone records showed that Conway called him immediately before and after the incident. Max’s attorney, Gerald Saluti, claims that his client was not even in New Jersey at the time of the crime and referred to the evidence as “hearsay.” Conway and Leerdam are also in custody.
