Snoop Pleads Not Guilty

Snoop Dogg pleaded not guilty to weapons charges in a California court through his attorney yesterday.
Snoop was arrested on suspicion of weapons charges in Sept. 2006, when security guards found a collapsible, 53 inch baton in one of Snoop Dogg's carry on bags as he was enroute to San Francisco.
Snoop told officers that the baton was a prop for a movie he was filming.
If convicted, the rapper faces up to three years in prison.
In Oct., the rapper was arrested at Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, CA on suspicion of drug and gun possession, after police searched his car and recovered a small amount of marijuana and a loaded handgun.
In Nov., Snoop and two associates were arrested in Burbank, CA, after a performance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
Snoop's vehicle was stopped by officers as he pulled out of NBC studios after the performance and arrested when police recovered a handgun and small amounts of marijuana and cocaine in the vehicle.
While police have yet to file charges in the Oct. and Nov. incidents, the cases are under review according to a spokesman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office.
If convicted, the rapper faces up to three years in prison.

Promise (remix)

The internet is going nuts over Ciara remixes. With the release of Polow Da Don’s remix of “Get Up” and now a re-work of her hit single, “Promise,” featuring R. Kelly, it seems that she’s got the remix game on lock. I don’t know, I’m not as impressed with this as I am with the original. I guess it’s the whole fact that R. Kelly just kind of reminds me of the old uncle who is still trying to keep up with the young girls - especially after the whole underage sextape scandal. But I can’t deny the fact that R. has written some wonderful songs and made great contributions to music. I guess I’m just not feeling him on the “Promise” remix, although I am digging the rearrangement to Ciara’s vocals and added pianos.

Clipse...the untouchables

CLASSIC or NOT... Calling something “classic” is confusing. How can a journalist use the “c” word to describe an album after one listen, often three months before it hits stores? The controversial word says something not only about the quality of the music, but how it impacts the hip-hop community for years after its release. Shoot, most LPs that we would consider classic today, from The Chronic to Comin’ Out Hard, didn’t receive a flawless rating from any major publications when they were released.
Sure, XXL gave Clipse’s new album Hell Hath No Fury an “XXL” rating (something that only 5 albums have previously obtained). Still, nowhere in
the review is the word “classic” used, and with good reason. While the music is arguably perfect, only time can decide its classic status.

Youngbloodz plead "Not Guilty"

Rap group The Youngbloodz and 12 members of their entourage appeared in Coweta County Superior Court in Georgia yesterday (Jan. 11) to answer drug and weapons charges, stemming from an June 1 traffic incident.
The group
was enroute to a show in Columbus, GA on June 1, when police noticed the tour bus's Florida tags were expired.
A search yielded almost a half-pound of marijuana, as well as smaller separate bags hidden throughout the bus.
Also found was a .40 caliber glock and .45 caliber handgun.
The Youngbloodz both pleaded not guilty to possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a gun/knife while committing a crime.

LL says "NO" to surgery

Rapper LL Cool J has rubbished reports he has resorted to steroids and cosmetic surgery to tighten up his ageing body.
The hitmaker insists he has endured plenty of pain to achieve a shape he is happy with, and is furious critics assume he has taken the easy path.
He says, "There are so many people speculating over what they think that I am doing. Is he doing steroids? Did he get plastic surgery?
"It speaks more about the people who are making comments than it does about me. It tells me that they cheat and they're cheaters.
"They are not willing to make the sacrifices necessary, and go through the pain necessary, in order to get in the best shape they can possibly be.
"So they don't believe I would be willing to do it either. So it is really more about their weakness, and less about mine.
"The reality is that I really do go into the gym, and I didn't have surgery, and I didn't do steroids.
"I really do work out hard, and I really do diet. I really did do it. ."

Meagan Good "ROBBED"

StarzandStyle recently reported that Meagan Good was cruisin' along Hollywood and Highland Complex by the Kodex Center when she stopped at a red light. Fans recognized Meagan and immediately bum rushed her for autographs. Meagan trying to be the good celebrity, obliged, but when the light turned green, she realized that her purse was missing from the passenger seat. Her purse contained uncashed checks, id's, and loads of cash. Meagan had to cancel her checks, and credit cards, but could do nothing about the stolen cash. She was highly upset about the situation. I guess her publicist put this out, because we all know her purse REALLY contained lipgloss, 4 grape jelly flavored condoms and a packet of birth control.

Huge turnout for Houston Auction

Hundreds of Whitney Houston fans swarmed a New Jersey storage house to bid thousands on items that once belonged to the singer. The items included stage costumes, clothes, lingerie, gold records belonging to ex-husband Bobby Brown and concert equipment.
The storage company Speed of Sound, sold the items to satisfy an outstanding $150,000 storage bill that Whitney neglected (or refused) to pay. From Star Pulse: "Bidders snatched up designer clothing from Houston's 1999 My Love Is Your Love tour, including a Versace beaded catsuit, several velvet jumpsuits with the star's insignia, and 13 Dolce & Gabbana bras. A clear Schimmel grand piano, worth $292,500, was purchased by an antiques dealer from Mississippi for a bargain price of $20,000, while 16 music awards presented to Houston's estranged husband Bobby Brown went for $400. Other items sold in the auction include a keyboard, drum kits, a forklift, a concert stage set and sound equipment. In the meantime, according to the NY Post's PAGE SIX, the owner of the New Jersey Storage facility is Michael Fuchs, a former chief of Warner Music and before that, HBO. Sources tell PAGE SIX that most of the belongings, a forklift and concert equipment among other items, didn't even belong to Whitney.

"They were owned by backup musicians and small vendors," who had either lent them or asked Houston to store them. Fuchs, who went from a top corporate exec to warehouse overseer, did not share the view of the facility's previous manager, who was convinced the diva was headed for a comeback and would pay her debts. "It is not unusual for an artist to sell off old equipment and costumes no longer needed. She is selling equipment, as many artists do, that is out of date," said Nancy Seltzer, Whitney's longtime publicist in a media statement made last week.

Kanye gets tv show

HBO is developing a series from Larry Charles that will star rapper Kanye West, sources said. The as-yet-untitled project is said to focus on a day in what is described as the crazy, hectic life of the Grammy-winning artist. The project is from executive producer/director Charles; sources said the other executive producers will be record producer/label executive Rick Rubin; G Roberson, who is West's manager; and Kanye West.
In March, West teamed with Anonymous Content and New Line Cinema to produce a feature film inspired by his music. West also will appear in the film, which will create a multiperspective portrait of the U.S. as seen through the eyes of West and several filmmakers.

Max B. held on $2 million bail

Dip Set's Max B has been ordered to be held on $2 million bail on charges of murder, robbery and conspiracy, stemming from a September 2006 incident that left one man dead in a Ft. Lee, N.J., hotel room. According to the Newark Star Ledger, Bergen County prosecutors allege that the rapper, whose real name is Charlie Wingate, orchestrated a scheme to rob David Taylor and Allan “Jay” Plowden on Sept. 22, 2006. According to prosecutor Catherine Fantuzzi, Max B’s girlfriend, Gina Marie Conway, told the rapper that she had seen the two men driving expensive cars and flashing large amounts of money. Max B is accused of recruiting his friend Kelvin Leerdam to enter the men’s hotel room at the Ft. Lee Holiday Inn, tie them up and take their cash.
Conway, who has also been charged in the case, allegedly knocked on Plowden’s door at around 4 a.m., then entered the room with Leerdam, who had a handgun. The two forced Plowden to call Taylor to the room. When Taylor arrived, he was shot in the head. Plowden was tied up but later managed to escape. Conway and Leerdam reportedly failed to find the $30,000 in cash that Plowden was supposed to be carrying at the time. Prosecutors say they connected Max B to the robbery when cell phone records showed that Conway called him immediately before and after the incident. Max’s attorney, Gerald Saluti, claims that his client was not even in New Jersey at the time of the crime and referred to the evidence as “hearsay.” Conway and Leerdam are also in custody.

N.O.R.E testifies in triple homicide trial

Queens, NY rapper N.O.R.E. recently testified in a U.S. District Court on behalf of a friend that was charged with three murders.
According to the Associated Press, N.O.R.E. (born Victor Santiago) took the stand on Wednesday (January 10) in order to help out buddy Darryl Henderson, who has been on trial for the last month for a gruesome triple murder which occurred on January 21, 2002, a block and a half away from Yankee Stadium. If convicted of the charges, Henderson could possibly face the death penalty.
In his testimony, N.O.R.E. stated that he did not know that the defendant and others who traveled with him on tours had criminal backgrounds. Under a prosecutor's cross examination, he described his touring as being a wild party in which he sometimes smoked marijuana prior to performances and regularly chased women.
In opening statements, Assistant U.S. Attorney David M. Rody claimed that Henderson and two members of Murder Unit, a street gang that sold crack cocaine and marijuana around Yankee Stadium, committed the murders in order to steal 30 kilograms of cocaine, with an estimated value of over $500,000.
He also contended that the victims were stabbed more than 20 times and that all three had their throats slashed. Rody claimed that within three days of the murders, the killers fled to Miami where they spent their time, "drinking, partying, posing for pictures and spending the money they made from the stolen cocaine."
"I don't want to see him go to jail, no," N.O.R.E. said of Henderson. He also testified that he met the defendant in the Bronx in 1998 or 1999 and befriended him, allowing him to go on tour as a roadie, running errands including ordering food and drinks for performers. He also testified to befriending members of Murder Unit, but denied having any knowledge of them having violent histories, selling drugs or carrying weapons.
While the prosecution is looking to paint the Murder Unit as a violent gang, the defense contends that they were merely a rap group made up of neighborhood men looking to make it in the music industry. Defense attorney David E. Patton told jurors that his client did not kill anyone and has never been in a gang, but admitted to his client selling drugs at one point.
"Frankly, given the predicament Darryl is in right now, Murder Unit may well be the worst name in the history of names," he stated.
While the prosecution aimed to attack what they saw as N.O.R.E.'s questionable memory, he firmly testified that Henderson had not been at the center of any of the violence that he recalled while the two were in each other's company. He also defended the group's dubious name and his reasons for allowing them to go on tour with him.
"Hardcore hip-hop tends to sell more records," N.O.R.E. said on the stand. "It's about selling an image.
"The torch was handed to me to do it for somebody else," he added of attempting to help the group. He also said, outside the courtroom that, "He's my man. They're trying to make it something that it's not. I believe he's innocent."

Nia Long covers the ESSENCE

Essence: Last summer everyone was talking about how you were involved in an ugly scuffle at The Grove, an upscale shopping mall in Los Angeles Nia:Yes. But I want to get this straight: It wasn’t my fault. I didn’t start it; I didn’t throw any punches. It was one man’s ego against another man’s pride. It was all about them. Essence: But how do two grown men start fighting at a mall? Nia: What happened was, I’d gone out to dinner with my son and a friend of mine. This was the first time I’d ever brought my child around someone I was dating, so it was a big deal. After dinner, my son’s father (to whom Long was previously engaged; the couple broke up when their son was a toddler) needed to pick him up, so I told him to meet me. Really, I had no intention of introducing him to my friend right then, because my life is my business. He knows I’m a good mother, and that’s the most important thing. But he got to the mall a lot faster than I thought he would. It’s like he put on his Batman wings and flew (laughing). When I saw him I thought, Okay, this is nothing to get excited about, and I introduced him to my friend. They shook hands, and then I guess my son’s father just got emotional, because he basically punched my friend in the face. Essence: He shook his hand and then popped him for no reason? Nia: Words were exchanged, but I’m not going to repeat them. Really, I don’t think that fight had anything to do with me. I think it had to do with our son. Men are very protective of their children, and ours is his first and only child. I think my child’s father was like, “This is who’s around my son?” and just kind of lost it. Then they started fighting, so I walked off because I didn’t want my son to get the idea that this is appropriate behavior. That’s when the mall security came and broke it up, and the police were called. (Long’s ex did not return repeated phone calls from Essence.)

Ghost Writer

Ne-Yo recently revealed that contrary to popular beliefs, he wrote all the lyrics to Beyonce's current hit "IRREPLACEABLE". He also stated that Beyonce just added the harmonies to the song. Beyonce insist on claiming she wrote "IRREPLACEABLE" alone and needed help from no one.
This comes on the heels of Beyonce's recent Oscar snub. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences denied Beyonce a nomination as co-writer for the song "Listen".
In recent interviews, Bee claimed she "captured these feelings" during the filming of Dreamgirls and "immediately went into the recording studio" after filming ended. This implies that she was inspired by her character to run into the studio and put her feelings on record. She doesn't mention Ne-Yo's role in any of her interviews.

"Stop comparing me to Janet"

R&B sensation Ciara is sick of being compared to superstar Janet Jackson, and wishes the industry would stop highlighting similarities in the singers' careers.

The hit maker is known for sexy outfits and energetic music videos. And while she is flattered by the comments she wants to be known as her own person and not follow in Janet's footsteps.

She says "I grew up loving and watching Janet, but because of all the comparisons to her, I don't want to emulate anything she's done...if anything I'd love to have the same amount of success, but I don't want to be like her...I wanna be my own".
